New England clam chowder. 9/18/25
It has finally cooled off for a few days so I thought I’d make soup. This clam chowder is one of our favorites. Here’s the recipe from my blog entry last January. Oops! I did not post the recipe in … Continue reading

I made this a couple of weeks ago and it turned out really tasting good so I decided to make it again. Still good! There is some chopping and you have to wait for the potatoes to cook through but … Continue reading

Sicilian swordfish and zucchini 9/9/25
We have made this Sicilian dish a few times with both swordfish and tilapia. I think I like it better with tilapia. Cod would be a good choice too, especially Atlantic cod which is much more delicious than Pacific cod. … Continue reading

Seared tuna and stir-fry vegetables. 9/6/25
We occasionally buy these frozen pieces of tuna when they are on sale. Two 7-ounce portions at $5 each make a fancy but economical meal for the three of us. John marinates the tuna briefly in soy sauce and presses … Continue reading
Greek Fisherman’s Stew. 8/25/25
In the past we have tried making a Mediterranean fish stew following a recipe by Rick Stein. It was very fussy with an array of seafood that cooked at different times and loads of vegetables which needed chopping. It included … Continue reading

Shrimp, vegetables, and beans over rice with nuoc cham 8/2/25
After a non-cooking Friday night due to an event we attended we were supposed to have shrimp tacos on Saturday. As often happens towards the end of the week I was not feeling like what had seemed a good idea … Continue reading

Tilapia with tomatoes, olives, and kale. 7/9/25
This sauce is also called agghiotta and is typically served in Sicily with swordfish. I used this recipe from Serious Eats. https://www.seriouseats.com/agghiotta-di-pesce-spada-sicilian-braised-swordfish-with-tomatoes-and-olives-5212333#:~:text=Served%20with%20swordfish%2C%20the%20dish,Sicilian%2Dstyle%20swordfish%22). As you can see I cooked two pieces of tilapia and added kale and zucchini for vegetables.

Shrimp tacos. 7/4/25
I realize that shrimp tacos are not quite standard Fourth of July fare. We are having the family over on Sunday for a more traditional burger cookout. For our shrimp tacos John did his usual superlative job of cooking the … Continue reading

Tilapia agghiotta. 6/23/25
Agghiotta is a Sicilian manner of cooking fish, particularly swordfish. It leans heavily into the Mediterranean style using tomatoes, olives, and capers. I found a recipe for it on Serious Eats and what it boils down to is make the … Continue reading
